Best Practices for Password Security

One of the things as a Phoenix web design company we witness is people using passwords that are high security risks. Many people choose passwords that are easy to remember but by doing so they end up choosing passwords that are easy to hack. This is something small online business owners need to be aware of because not only are you putting your personal information and business at risk but you are also placing your customers at risk especially if you have an eCommerce business and ask for sensitive information. Identity Theft is a crime that is on the rise and we to do everything we can to protect the identity of ourselves and our clients. I am going to show you some of the best practices for selecting a new password.

  1. Length – The longer your password the better. Our experience as a Phoenix web design company we would strongly suggest using a password of at least 8 characters.
  2. Complexity – We understand that the more complex you make a password the more difficult it becomes to remember and this can be annoying but security should come first as there are many predators out there looking to hack into your website and steal personal information. We would suggest you use the whole keyboard by using upper and lower case letters, punctuation, numbers and special characters. This will make is a lot more difficult for a hacker to hack into your website.
  3. Update Password – You should attempt to update your password every 2 to 4 months. Again we understand that this can be annoying to try to remember but again security is more important.

These are all just suggestions you can create whatever password you would like however it is much easier to create a strong password than create a weak password and try to clean up the mess later. HireAWiz is a Phoenix web design company that has noticed this as an issue and are just simply wanting to make our clients and others aware. Even though this was written for website owners it is good practice for all your accounts.
