Security is a Necessity for Your Website

As a Scottsdale web design company we have seen how important security can be. I have recently read an article on CNN.com about Linkedin being a hackers dream. You can read the full article by clicking here.  This really got me thinking! In a world where most businesses have an online presence in one way or another, how safe is your business and your customers? Whether you have a website, social media site, email, PayPal or any other online presence, you need to be aware of your surroundings. As I am sure you have read, there have been a lot of high profile companies getting hacked lately. Whether it be PlayStation or even the US Government, nobody is safe from having their personal information stolen, but there are precautions you can take to help prevent this from happening to you and your business. Make sure your computer is protected. Now there are some free virus software out there such as Avast or AVG. I would suggest purchasing a more extensive anti virus software but some protection is better than no protection. These will work to fight off different viruses and things hackers use, to ultimately get your personal or business information. These are small investments to make considering the possible consequences of being hacked. Never EVER open an email attachment from somebody that has no reason to be sending you an email attachment. Hackers have been able to trick a lot of people into doing this, and when you open the attachment you have a virus. This should be common sense, however as you read the CNN article I referenced earlier, there was even Government officials that fell victim to this trick. Finally, don’t use the same password for everything and make your password is as difficult as possible. For example use symbols, numbers, and letters to make the complexity go up. This is very important as using 123456789, qwerty and password are just some examples of poor passwords that are likely to be hacked.
